The Story Behind Maya's Arrival

Maya Isabella

Maya Isabella Ontiveros was born on February 26, 2009 at 4:05 am. She was 19 3/4" long and weighed 7.9 lbs. That sounds nice and all but there is always a catch... and here it is.

We were scheduled to have a C-Section on February 26 at 2:00 pm; so when Linda woke up at 1:00 am that same morning and told me her water broke, I knew it was going to be a long day. Linda got up and called her sister to come over to watch Mason but it took a few times as the woman who constantly had her phone by her side just in case Maya came early, didn't have her phone by her side and we needed to call her husband's cell to get the message to her so that she could watch Mason for us as he was asleep.

We arrived at IHC's version of the Taj Mahal, THE IMC (Intermountain Medical Center) and we checked into Labor and Delivery at 2:00 am. We got a warm welcome from the staff and they got us in to the L&D room. Like how I know the lingo?
Notice the time?
Anyway, Linda was hooked up to all sorts of due hickeys and do-dads that monitored Maya's heart and Linda's contractions. I made the mistake of telling Linda after one of those contractions that it was a small one. It was small on the monitor, but I guess you don't say things like that to a woman in labor. We were happy to here that our doctor would be coming in to perform the C-Section. He must have heard that I was not going to pay him the last $1000 if he didn't show up.

It wasn't long before Linda was led to the OR and our doctor was cranking some 2Pac... ok, I asked for 2Pac but got Josh Groban instead. Linda was given the spinal and the anesthesiologist did an awesome job, reassuring Linda the entire time and providing us a very positive experience.

The surgery started and before we knew it, our doctor was showing us our little girl at 4:05 in the morning. She came out strong, kicking and screaming. She even began to scream while she was still in the womb, before the doc pulled her out.

Both mom and Maya are doing well. We were all very tired that first day but we are getting better as the days go on.

Great story Linda... so how were those contractions... ick

I'm glad all went well with delivery and that you have a wonderful, soft, cuddly bundle to keep you up every 3 hours.
