Auntie Renee

We were so lucky to have my sister in town for a short but nice visit. She was out here for 2 days, interviewing at elementary schools in the Salt Lake valley and in Park City. Mason adored her and loved playing with her. He will be so bored now that she is gone and it's just mom to play with! Auntie Renee showed Mason how to use his rocking horse and riding Mickey toy. Now he constantly crawls over to his rocking horse or Mickey, pulls himself up and thinking he's bigger than he is, tries to get on it by himself. Needless to say he falls or stands there and whines for mom to put him on it. Thanks Auntie Renee for showing him how to use those! We were hoping to keep in a secret til he was a bit bigger. We were sad to see Aunt Renee leave, but we hope this fall she and her family may be out here to live. We will keep our fingers crossed.

What a Week!

We started off the week with cute little Mason and fever on Sunday evening. I thought most likely it was a tooth coming in. Monday the fever (103) continued off and on all day. He wasn't really eating and was just super sad all day long. I called his doctor's office, but since Mason didn't have any other symptoms except the drooling and runny nose.., we just had to wait it out alternating Motrin and Tylenol to help his fever. Tuesday I thought things were getting a bit better in the morning even though he was up several times through out the night. His fever broke, but I notice these little sores around his mouth were starting to form. I thought they were from his excessive drool and Binky combo. By Tuesday night it was obvious he was having a hard time swallowing. He didn't sleep most of the night. We went into the doctor's first thing Wednesday morning only to find out our cute little guy had his first ear infection and possible strep. They didn't test him for strep because the antibiotic for the ear infection would get rid of the strep as well if that's what it was. I mentioned the spots around his mouth. His doctor gave a few options as to what it could be...., all of which we had to wait and see what it developed into and were very contagious. We sat home Wednesday. He was so sad and not feeling well all day. His throat hurt too much so he wasn't eating. He couldn't settle down enough to nap. He just wanted to be with his mom. It was a long day for us both. Thursday morning with a little Ammoxicillin under his belt, Mason woke up feeling like a champ, but the little spots about his mouth were now inside his mouth as well as on his feet and now blister like. He was such a trooper. Yet another call to the doctors office..., I'm sure they just love new moms. With the addition of the rash spreading to his feet, they now thought it was some other type of disease, but of course they couldn't be sure until in was more developed. Friday morning with the addition of hundreds of blister-like spots to his calves and his hands yet another doctor's visit was merited. The rash was finally 'developed' enough to be given a name..., and it was Hand-Foot-Mouth disease. Have you ever heard of such a thing? Apparently it's a fairly common childhood illness. It's viral and not much can be done except wait it out. Friday morning also brought a cut or rather a gash to Kava's lip. He had snagged part of it on the 4 ft chain link fence in our back yard while barking at the other dogs. 18 stitches later and a day at the vet, he was good as new.., well almost. Kava was a bit stoned all Friday evening and part of Saturday morning. He too was started on Ammoxicillin to fight off any possible infection. Mason's sores around and in his mouth are pretty gone. His hands a looking better and only a spot or two remain. Now if we can just get his feet to clear up, life would be back to normal. Mason's been a fairly healthy kid. He's almost 9 months and no serious sickness or accidents. We've been extremely lucky with this. Having him sick this week, I completely shut down. I took several days off from work and found it hard to do anything except be with him. It was all I could do not to cry with him each time he cried because he hurt. I hate the feeling of having a sick child and not being able to do anything to help him. I'm know we will have more weeks like this in the future for our little family. For now, I am just grateful we made it through this week.

Mason is SO great about taking his medcine. He really is a good kid!

I'm BACK!

After a brief but devastating accident with my mom and the clippers..., my beloved Mohawk was lost. But fear not..., 4 weeks later, a little gel and some help from Mom and I'm back in business.., impressing the old ladies at the Albertson's and all through out the Salt Lake Valley.

Welcome to our Family

It all happened so fast! We were planning on selling our Jeep after Jeep week, but we thought we'd have a few months to find our new Jeep. We posted it last Wednesday on KSL classifies and in less than 1 hour it was sold. Goodbye Lexy.., the red Jeep. Hello to (still no name). So.., here is
What should we call her? Dan does say it's a girl.

Come' On People! Don't be Dumb on National TV!

All I have to say is..., 'are you kidding me???' I don't watch games shows on TV. Tonight I was folding clothes after I put Mason to bed and the show 'the Moment of Truth' comes on. I've seen the commercials and some what know the premise behind the show is that you're asked difficult questions in front of family and friends. You have to answer these questions truthfully because you're hooked up to a lie detector. Seems simple enough..., honest folks shouldn't a problem. They ask questions like 'have you ever resented you mother?' or 'Have you ever fantasied about your husband's brother?' and the list goes on. I'm sure you get the gist of it. Anyway.., tonight right as I turned on the TV a lady is in the hot seat and being asked, 'Have you ever had a sexual fantasy that involved your girl friend. Her girl friend was of course sitting by the lady in hot seats mom and husband. The hot seat lady answers 'yes' and the gasps go across the audience. The hot seat lady explains how beautiful she think her friend is, etc. She tells how they traveled quite a bit together and seen each other naked. This is not the disturbing part! Next the hosts says something along the lines of this, 'I know you're very religious, what faith are you?' The hot seat lady that fantasies about her girl friend answered 'Mormon'! I love it! I love folks out there like this lady who are representing the Mormon faith on national TV and doing such a poor job at it. Anyway.., the next question was, 'Would you ever leave your husband if he left the Mormon church?" She answers that she would and the lie detector confirms the same. I just don't get it? Am I way off here??? I love my girl friends to death. They are who help support me through the tough days and laugh with me on the good days....., BUT and I capitalize to accentuate my point.., BUT there's not one of them that I've had sexual fantasies about or will for that matter!?!?! Please.., please..., I beg.., if by some chance you go on national TV..., please don't tell the country that you have lesbian fantasies and that you are Mormon. There's already enough crazy concepts about us Mormon's out there..., we certainly don't need any more.

Guilty Pleasures

I have been wanting to plant a garden for years now..., 3 to be exact. I completely enjoy gardening yet I found myself putting it off each year for one reason or another. Not this year! My seeds are started and I'm one step closer to my garden. I can taste the tomatoes now. Mmmmm! I need to give a shout out to Mason's sitter for getting me excited to do this. Gracias! I found these dandy little greenhouse thingy do's at Wal Mart. In less than 10 minutes they're all planted and labeled. I have 4 of these babies. I'm not quite sure where they will be living for the next 5 - 6 weeks til they are ready to plant.., but they are started! An actual garden is right around the corner. I'll invite you all over for some cukes and pumkins!

Follow the Leader...,

Mason is on the move and has been following me from room to room. He'll play for a few minutes with his toys on his own, but bores easily and then looks for his mom to entertain him. I keep explaining to him that my job is not to entertain him.., he's still trying to grasp that one. I'll be doing dishes when I hear the thump-thump-thump of him cruising down the hallway at lightening speed.
