Most towns around the city of Oaxaca have a craft they specialize in to earn income. The whole town will do the same thing. Some towns make black pottery or green pottery. While others make wool rugs and others embroider clothing. The town of Tilcajete made these incredible wood carving that they hand painted as well. Each pin of the porcupine is hand carved and then inserted in for a carve hole.

They are incredible delicate, colorful...., and.., well.., very expensive.
That's a peso next to the lizard so you can tell the size. A peso is about the size of a dime. We got Mason two lizards for his room. I'm planning on mounting them to the wall so they look like they are crawling up it.
I could have spent days in this place. There were rows and rows of these hand carved treasures.
This cactus and humming bird came home with us. I love it! I just need to find a place for it now.
This little guy is for the country of Chile. When it's finished, it will go in their down town square in Santiago.
This peacock was very impressive. They said it took months and month to make. It was about $1500. 
One of the painters is showing me how the paint is layered to create certain effects. It's quite the process.
And our little guy slept through it all..., well.., most of it.
